Stories Causing Atlas to Shrug, July 14th Edition - Waste, Fraud, Abuse & Welfare

10.1% of the Government's Medicare's fee-for-service payments were fraudulent or improper in 2013.

Federal subsidies for private health insurance are roughly $4,000 a year for every household in America, on the average.

UCSF Report: 900 Americans die DAILY as a result of preventable errors in hospitals.

Nevada Obamacare Exchange consumers have to pay premiums for coverage, even though they have no way to confirm whether they really have coverage.

35.4% live in household in the U.S. where someone received benefits from 1 or more “means-tested” government welfare programs.  That number is 49% when including non-means-tested programs (Social Security, and Medicare, for example).

Oops. Blue Shield of Calif. released the Social Security numbers of 18,000 physicians and other providers.

65% of the money for government food aid program is spent on shipping and business costs – NOT on food.
